Tangleout Privacy Policy
Tangleout has no accounts, and the game itself plays fully offline. The app uses the network only for usage statistics and crash reports (with your consent where the law asks for it) and for two optional features: reward videos and the Supporter purchase.
Who is responsible
Mirhashem Mousavi Mehmandousti, the developer of Tangleout, is the controller of your data in the sense of the GDPR. See "Contact" below.
Stored on your device
Your level progress, stars, hint count, settings (theme, sound, haptics, music), whether you own the Supporter upgrade and your consent choices are stored locally on your device. They may be included in your personal device backup (Android backup, iCloud or a computer backup) if you have backups enabled. Deleting the app removes them; "Reset progress" in Settings clears progress and hints.
Your consent choices
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland nothing described under "Usage statistics and crash reports" or "Reward videos" happens until you have agreed to it. At launch the app asks Google whether consent is needed where you are, which transmits your IP address. The consent form appears the first time you choose to watch a reward video. You can open it at any time under Settings → "Privacy options", to agree, refuse or withdraw; refusing is as easy as agreeing and costs you nothing in the game. Withdrawing does not affect what was processed before.
Elsewhere, the features below are active from the first launch where local law allows it.
Reminders
If you allow notifications, the app reminds you of the daily puzzle with a message in the evening. The reminder is planned on your device and nothing is sent anywhere for it. You can switch it off in the game's settings or in the system's.
Usage statistics and crash reports
The app contains Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics, so that problems can be found and fixed and the game improved. Both are switched off until you have agreed (or no consent is needed where you are).
- Analytics records how the app is used: app opens, screens and session length; levels and daily puzzles started, won, lost or left, with stars, time and how many threads were cleared; hints used; sprint scores; results shared (not with whom or where); challenges opened and finished; reward videos offered and watched; when the Supporter offer is shown and when a review is asked for; and, if the app was installed from a shared link, that it was. This comes together with device model, system version, app version, language, approximate location derived from the IP address, and an app-instance identifier. It is used for advertising only if you also agreed to the advertising purposes.
- Crashlytics records crashes: the stack trace, device model, system version, app version and an installation identifier. A crash from before you agreed stays on your device and is sent once you agree. It is not used for advertising.
Both are provided by Google; see the Firebase privacy information.
Reward videos
There are no banners and no ads that interrupt play. You can choose to watch a video to get hints or to continue a level; if you never tap those buttons, no ad is shown.
The videos are served by Google AdMob. To load and show them, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects data such as your IP address (which gives an approximate location), the device's advertising ID, device and app information, and how you interact with an ad. On iOS the app never asks for permission to track you, so the advertising ID stays hidden from it there. Google uses this to deliver and measure ads and to prevent fraud, and, where you allow it, to personalise ads. See how Google uses this data.
Supporter purchase
The Supporter upgrade is bought through Google Play or the App Store. They process the payment; Tangleout never sees your payment details and only learns whether the upgrade is owned. Supporters have unlimited hints and continue without a video, so no ad is shown to them.
Legal bases (GDPR)
- Usage statistics, crash reports and ads: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, and the rules on storing or reading information on your device).
- Asking whether consent is needed, and remembering your answer: legal obligation and legitimate interest in meeting it (Art. 6(1)(c) and (f)).
- The Supporter purchase: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)).
Recipients and transfers
Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC process the data above as described in their policies. Data may be transferred to the United States and other countries; Google relies on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses for this.
How long data is kept
Analytics data tied to an identifier is kept for at most 14 months, crash reports for 90 days. Data on your device stays until you delete the app.
Your rights
You can ask for access to your data, its correction or deletion, restriction of its processing, a copy in a portable format, and you can object to processing and withdraw consent at any time. You can also complain to your data protection authority. Because the app has no accounts, please include how we can find your data when you write to us; deleting the app and resetting your advertising ID in the system settings cuts the link to past data.
Children
Tangleout is not directed at children under 16, and no consent is asked of them knowingly.
